About Us

The Disability Affairs Unit (DAU) was established in 1999 to serve as a resource and referral centre on matters pertaining to the community of persons with disabilities. The work of the Unit is rooted in principles of advocacy and is closely aligned to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

We are driven by values

To become the lead monitoring agency for ensuring that persons with disabilities live full and productive lives, uninhibited by societal constraints.

Collaboration with the NGO Community

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services works in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which serve the community of persons with disabilities. This partnership is essential for the advancement of the rights and dignity of their clients. The Ministry provides financial as well as technical support to eligible NGOs to assist in the delivery of services and/or social programmes for persons with disabilities.
